I live in the United States, but my specialty is world coins from the 20th century to the present. The first time I really started taking an interest in coins was when I was in grade school. I was counting the change in a Snoopy bank that my parents keep on top of the fridge. In it were some coins from Jordan and the Dominican Republic that my Dad had picked up while he was in the army, as well as coins from Canada and Britain. Friends and family have given me coins from their travels or just that they found in their change. While I worked at a fast food restaurant during high school, my manager allowed me to swap out foreign coins in the cash registers for American ones. I picked up many world coins there as well as some interesting American ones. I saved coins from my travels during a study abroad program in college. Nowadays, I get most of my coins through trades or donations. I do occasionally buy from coin shops, but I don't usually have money to spare on auctions and serious purchases.
I don't really know if I should consider myself a beginner anymore or not. However, at best I'm not that far beyond one myself, so while I can advise complete newbies, I definitely have a lot to learn.
